How to play Zip

Zip is a number path puzzle. Starting from the square marked 1, you draw a single unbroken path that passes through every square of the grid exactly once and reaches the numbered checkpoints in ascending order. Bold walls on the board block movement between the squares they separate.

Because the path must cover the whole grid, every square matters. A good Zip solve is about planning the route around corners, walls, and checkpoints rather than rushing straight from one number to the next. Most boards take three to six minutes.

Zip strategy tips

Protect the corners

A corner square has only two neighbors, so the path must enter and leave through them. If you pass a corner without visiting it, it can become a dead end that cannot be reached later.

Read the walls first

Bold walls often create narrow corridors. A square with only two open sides forces the path through both of them, which can fix several moves at once.

Do not take the shortest route between numbers

Going directly from one checkpoint to the next usually leaves pockets of unvisited squares. Sweep through nearby areas on the way so nothing is left behind.

Rewind instead of restarting

If the route goes wrong, tap an earlier cell of your path to rewind to that point. Keeping the correct beginning saves time.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Leaving a single isolated square that the path can no longer reach.
  • Visiting a higher checkpoint before a lower one; numbers must be reached in order.
  • Trying to move diagonally or through a bold wall. Moves only go to squares that share an open edge.

Zip FAQ

How do I move in Zip?

Start on checkpoint 1, then drag or tap through neighboring squares. You can only move up, down, left, or right to a square that is not separated by a wall.

Do I have to fill every square?

Yes. The puzzle is complete only when one path covers every square exactly once and reaches all checkpoints in order, ending at the highest number.

Can I undo a move?

Yes. Tap any earlier square on your path to rewind to it, or use the Undo button.
