How to play Trace

Trace is a connect-the-dots flow puzzle. Each color appears as two dots on the grid. Drag a pipe from one dot to its matching partner for every color, without letting pipes cross, until every cell on the board is filled.

The challenge is that all pipes share the same space: a route that is fine for one color can block another. Trace boards usually take three to six minutes and reward planning ahead.

Trace strategy tips

Start with dots on edges and corners

Dots tucked into corners or along the edge usually have only one sensible route. Connecting them first frees up the middle of the board.

Connect close pairs early

When two matching dots are next to each other or very close, connect them directly. Short pipes rarely need to wander.

Hug the walls with long pipes

Long routes that follow the edge of the board leave the center open for other colors.

Fill every cell

Connecting all colors is not enough; the board must be completely filled. If cells are left over, reroute a pipe so it passes through them.

Common mistakes to avoid

• Drawing a pipe straight across the board and trapping other dots.
• Leaving empty cells after all pairs are connected.
• Dragging through another color by accident, which cuts that pipe back.

What happens if pipes overlap?

Pipes cannot cross. Dragging through another color's pipe cuts that pipe back so you can reroute it.

Is the puzzle solved when all colors are connected?

Only when all colors are connected and every cell on the board is filled by a pipe.
